Video: GM dares to compare Chevy Cruze to… the old Hyundai Elantra?

Filed under: Budget, Sedan, Marketing/Advertising, Chevrolet, GM, Hyundai Chevrolet dares to compare the new Cruze to an old Elantra – Click above to watch video after the jump General Motors is using the phrase \”Dare to Compare\” as part of a campaign pitting its vehicles directly against competitors. In a new video youll find after the break, the Chevrolet Cruze lines up against the Hyundai Elantra… the now-outdated 2010 Hyundai Elantra. While the Cruze 1LT (why not the base LS?) indeed performs quite well against the previous-generation, base-model Hyundai sedan, we would prefer to see it go wheel-to-wheel with the 2011 Elantra. Apples to apples and all that, right? As it stands, Chevrolet has dared to compare itself to an older version of a car that has since improved greatly. Hardly seems like a fair fight… For those wondering about the dollars and cents, the 2011 Chevrolet Cruze 1LT starts at $18,175 (the base Cruze LS starts at $16,275). By way of comparison, the base 2011 Hyundai Elantra GLS starts at $14,830 and the 2010 model started at $14,145. Its not that the Cruze isnt a fine car… but ya know, the new 2011 Cruze is quite a bit better than a lot of older cars… including the Cobalt this Elantra once competed with. Super Bowl MVP will receive a Chevy Camaro Convertible

Super Bowl MVP will receive a Chevy Camaro Convertible

Filed under: Convertible, Marketing/Advertising, Chevrolet, GM 2011 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible – Click above for high-res image gallery The Super Bowl is right around the corner, and that means one NFL player is close to winning their dream prize. No, were not talking about the Lombardi tropy, but the Pete Rozelle MVP award, and more importantly the prize car that goes along with it. This year, the winner will get to feel the breeze through their un-helmeted hair because General Motors is supplying a 2011 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible for the most valuable player. Previously, GM supplied a long string of Cadillacs for Super Bowl MVPs, and the Escalade proved to be the most popular ride of choice. Now the General is using the coveted NFL stage to highlight its newest drop-top… probably a better way to spend its money considering a 30 second spot costs up to $3 million. Wait… GM is doing that too. No matter, check out the press release after the break for the official announcement. Report: GM to double Chevy Volt production capacity in 2012

Report: GM to double Chevy Volt production capacity in 2012

Filed under: Hybrid, Sedan, Plants/Manufacturing, Chevrolet, GM 2011 Chevrolet Volt – Click above for high-res image gallery With fuel prices anticipated to rise, General Motors anticipates increased demand for the Chevrolet Volt. To stay ahead of the game, the automaker reportedly plans to double production capacity for the plug-in hybrid. Production was originally pegged at 10,000 this year and 60,000 next year, but if the increased capacity comes to pass, those figures could increase to 25,000 this year and 120,000 units next year. This strategy depends on parts availability, however, and if the outsourced parts necessary to build more Volts cant be ramped up by OEM suppliers, the plans could be cut short. As has been reported, in addition to the Volt itself, GM is evaluating possibilities to apply the cars gasoline-electric drivetrain to a range of additional products across different GM brands. Barrett-Jackson 2011: Chevrolet offers up a drop-top Camaro set to lead the Indy 500 field *Update: W/Video

Filed under: Convertible, Auctions, Videos, Chevrolet, GM 2011 Chevy Camaro Convertible Indy 500 Pace Car at Barrett-Jackson – Click above for high-res image gallery Chevrolet is taking to the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale stage to auction off a special drop-top. The first of 50 limited-edition cars, this 2011 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible Indy 500 Pace Car will cross the stage before heading to lead the field at the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500. The orange and white color combination matches that of the Indy-fied 1969 Chevrolet Camaro, which has since become a collectors item of its own. As far as we know, the Camaro Vert will be a 2012 model, but everything here at Barrett-Jackson is listing this as a 2011. Proceeds from the sale of this limited-edition Camaro will go the David Foster Foundation, which supports families with children in need of live-saving organ transplants. Charity cars have gone through the roof at the 2011 Barrett-Jackson auction and we would expect nothing different from this one. The Camaro Convertible doesnt have an official listing page, as it was something of a surprise for bidders, but you can watch Speeds live online coverage here. Are you playing Speeds Online Fantasy Bid Game? If not, test your auction pricing mettle by guessing what a series of featured vehicles will end up bringing at the auction block – you could end up winning a prize, like an Apple iPad. Enjoy! *Update: The final gavel price? $225,000. Click past the jump to watch this Camaro cross the auction block.
